Day of Contempt sit firmly in the depths of the metal-hardcore crossover — a band forged in Adelaide, Australia whose sound helped shape the landscape of heavy Australian hardcore through the late ‘90s and early 2000s.Long regarded as one of Australia’s most influential metallic hardcore bands, Day of Contempt forged their legacy through relentless live shows, landmark releases and a crushing blend of hardcore groove and grind-fuelled aggression. Their live assault remains as uncompromising as ever: throat-shredding vocals, crushing groove-laden riffs and abrasive metallic hardcore colliding with relentless percussion to create a sound that is both punishing and unforgettable.Formed in 1998, the band quickly established themselves as pioneers of Australian heavy hardcore. Day of Contempt unleashed their debut EP Where Shadows Lie in 1999, followed by the acclaimed releases See Through the Lies and The Will To Live, cementing their reputation as one of the country’s heaviest and most uncompromising hardcore acts.Following their return for the 25th anniversary reissue of Where Shadows Lie in 2024, Day of Contempt have re-emerged alongside the resurgence of heavy hardcore across Australia, including recent appearances at Kingpin Fest, Froth & Fury and supporting The Ghost Inside. What was once a defining force of Australian metallic hardcore still sounds every bit as violent and urgent today. With half the band rooted in hardcore and the other in grind, Day of Contempt created a sound that was uniquely savage yet undeniably groove-driven — a defining force in Australian heavy music that continues to leave its mark decades later.
