HOME Collective Creative Laboratory; a series of workshops beginning on Sunday, September 20, at Sláturhúsið, centered on a common question: What does home mean to us (migrant women)?

These collective creation gatherings have their roots in migrant women's circles.

The Migrant Women’s Circles are spaces launched in February 2025 and led by Tess Rivarola and Margaret Johnson, where participants are invited to share experiences, emotions, and reflections on what it means to be a migrant and to feel a sense of belonging.

HOME Collective Creative Laboratory will be guided by 3 artists: Carola Mazzotti, Apolline Fjara and Tess Rivarola.

Drawing on intimate and personal stories, we propose an artistic space that brings these experiences into the tangible realm, transforming memory and words into objects, structures, and visual poetry that can be inhabited, observed, and shared with the community through a collective exhibition.

This group exhibition will be on view on Friday, September 25, at Slaturhus Art Center and on Saturday, September 26, at Fish Factory, Stöðvarfjörður.

The HOME project is supported by East Development Funds, Mulathing, Sláturhúsið Art Center and Menningarstofa Fjardabyggd.

Migrant women living in eastern Iceland, both in Mulathing and in Fjardabyggd.

Schedule

Virtual meeting with artists Tess and Carola on Thursday, September 3, 5 pm

First meeting and kickoff of the creative workshop on Sunday, September 20, from 10 - 12 and 2 to 5 pm

Work from home and guidance and consultations at Slaturhus, Monday, September 21 through Thursday, September 24.
