Jazz í Djúpinu // Ástrún: Tónlist úr kvikmyndum Pedro Almodóvar
Djúpið, Hafnarstræti 15, 101 Reykjavík Directions
Thu Sep 17 2026 20:30
At this concert, voice, guitar, and bass will be used to perform a selection of songs from films by Pedro Almodóvar.
The cinematic world of the Spanish director Almodóvar is filled with music, vibrant colors, melodramatic and often humorous scenes. His films frequently feature strong female protagonists who are marginalized by society, yet whose stories are told with insight and compassion, drawing heavily on Spanish culture, popular culture, and kitsch aesthetics.
Music plays a central role in Almodóvar’s films, and this concert will take the audience on a journey through the musical landscapes of his work.
Ástrún Friðbjörnsdóttir is a singer and songwriter. She has performed a wide variety of music, including a great deal of Spanish music and flamenco, though in recent years she has focused on releasing her own original material. In the spring of 2023, she released the single Sandkorn, for which guitarist Ívar Símonarson created the guitar arrangements and accompaniment. Ívar has specialized in flamenco guitar and has attended various related courses in Spain.
