Location: The Workshop, 5th Floor

Reykjavík City Library, in collaboration with Sögur, invites children to learn how to write and create their own song under the guidance of Hrafnkell Örn Guðjónsson.

Course Overview

27th of October: Introduction to songwriting, lyric writing, and developing ideas. One hour session 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM

29th of October: Participants work on their songs in small groups. One-hour session scheduled between 3:00 PM and 6:10 PM

3rd of November: Participants put the finishing touches on their songs and prepare them for submission to the Sögur Songwriting Competition. One-hour session scheduled between 3:00 PM and 6:10 PM

At the end of the course, participants are encouraged to enter the Sögur Songwriting Competition. After the New Year, three songs will be selected, and their creators will have the opportunity to further develop their work with professional producers and musicians. The three winning songs will be performed at the Sögur Awards Ceremony next spring and broadcast live on RÚV. There is a lot to compete for!

Hrafnkell Örn Guðjónsson is a musician and drummer who has performed both in Iceland and internationally with a wide range of artists, including Agent Fresco, Emmsjé Gauti, Páll Óskar, and Úlfur Úlfur. He studied classical percussion at the Reykjavík College of Music and jazz and rock performance at FÍH Music School. Alongside his career as a professional musician, he has been teaching music to children for nearly two decades.
