RIFF offers a unique opportunity to attend the Nordic premiere of Wicker, the latest film starring Swedish screen icon Alexander Skarsgård, who is also this year’s Guest of Honor and will receive the RIFF Honorary Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement.
🎬 On the outskirts of a seaside village lives a woman who makes her living from the sea; unmarried, shunned, and constantly the target of the villagers’ ridicule. One day, she has had enough and orders herself a husband woven from wicker. In the conservative community, the unconventional marriage quickly sparks jealousy, scandal, and outrage — and before long, the entire village is up in flames.
Wicker is directed by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson and stars Olivia Colman, Peter Dinklage, and Elizabeth Debicki alongside Skarsgård.
Alexander Skarsgård has built a diverse career both in his native Sweden and internationally. He first gained major international attention in 2008 for his role as Eric Northman in True Blood. Since then, he has made his mark with memorable performances in Melancholia, The Northman, and The Legend of Tarzan. Many will know him best, however, for his role as Perry Wright in Big Little Lies, which earned him both an Emmy and a Golden Globe, and as Lukas Matsson in Succession.
Skarsgård will be in attendance at the screening and will take part in a Q&A — a truly unique opportunity to experience the acclaimed actor in person.
